TRAINING

The Ice Gems set an importance in training. In this aspect we offer a training syllabus to all our cheerleaders which include gradings and ribbons from the age of 8. These courses are ran by the governing bodies and Cheer Technique and are aimed at ensuring that every cheerleader in our squad are trained to coaching standards by the age of 18. We are pleased to advise that through this scheme we have had cheerleaders progress that they have eventually set up their own squads.

Every cheerleader registered with the Gems Organisation are given the opportunity to complete their Duke Of Edinburgh Award Scheme at all levels throught cheerleading. The Ice Gems are the only access centre in the Milton Keynes area which offers this facility. It is hoped that early 2006 we shall see the first Ice Gem attend Buckingham Palace to collect their Gold Award from The Duke Of Edinburgh.

The Gems Organisation also offers every cheerleader aged between 16 and 24 the opportunity to register as a Millenium Volunteer and with connexions. Through this scheme Ice Gems Coach, Nikki Delaney was nominated and won the Regional Heat for the Millenium Volunteer of the Year 2004 and was placed 2nd in the National Heat. Nikki has again been nominated for her work in 2005.

Many of those registered have also had other opportunities through Millenium Volunteers, these including staffing major music events such as Emimem, Oasis and Summer Xcess.

The Ice Gems have for the past three years represented Milton Keynes as part of the BCA and Scotcheer allstar squad at events such as The New Years Day Parade in London and The Easter Parade in Edinburgh. This year 8 of the girls have also been selecte te represent Milton Keynes in The Chantilly and Paris Parades in France on the 31st Dec and 1st Jan. These opportunities are available to all cheerleaders over the age of 14.
